Bipartisan state and local politicians are concerned about retaining domestic manufacturing.
Semiconductor manufacturing legislation is expected to come before Congress for a vote this week. Several state governors and mayors from around the nation have called for U.S. legislators to pass the measure in order to retain the domestic production of microchips.
On Friday, National Governor’s Association Chairs Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy issued a joint statement requesting that Congress take action. On Thursday, the U.S. Conference of Mayors sent a letter supporting the Bipartisan Innovation Act to congressional leaders. Business executives have also expressed concerns about manufacturers moving chip production to Asia or Europe.
